Event Description:

The University of West Florida Department of Theatre presents The School for Scandal, a play by Richard Brinsley Sheridan. Performances will be held Oct. 12 & 13 and 19 & 20 at 7:30pm and Oct. 14 & 21 at 2:30pm. All performances will take place in the Mainstage Theatre of the Center for Fine and Performing Arts, Building 82, on the UWF Pensacola campus.

In this play, written and set in 1777, gossip and scandal, usually concerning sexual intrigue, dominate the high society and aristocracy of England. Often considered the highlight of the “comedy of manners” plays, Sheridan’s plot delivers a scathing rebuke of the lack of honor, lax morality, and conceits of the idle rich, who spend their time in constant turmoil striving for superior position and advantage amongst themselves, through destroying the good names of their peers.

Director Marci Duncan leads the creative team of Charles Houghton, set design; Jennifer Cullen, lighting design; and Elizabeth Blanco Saenz, costume design.

Ticket prices are $18 per person for adults, $14 per person for senior citizens and active military, $12 per person for non-UWF students and UWF faculty and staff, and $7 for high school students. UWF students are admitted free with their Nautilus cards. Tickets can be purchased at the CFPA Box Office, Building 82, 850.857.6285 or online at uwf.edu/tickets.
