“Everything that Sounds in the Forest: Contemporary Art of the Peruvian Amazon” Exhibit
Start Date: 8/17/2018 All Day
End Date: 10/21/2018

Event Description:
The University of West Florida’s Pensacola Museum of Art will host the exhibition, “Everything that Sounds in the Forest: Contemporary Art of the Peruvian Amazon,” curated by Gabriela Germana and Christian Bendayán: Friday, Aug. 17, through Sunday, Oct. 21, 2018. The exhibition will be located in the Lewis Bear Family & Greenhut Construction galleries located on the first floor of the museum. The museum will hold an opening reception and talk for the exhibition on Friday, Aug. 17, from 6 to 8 p.m. “Everything that Sounds in the Forest: Contemporary Art of the Peruvian Amazon,” is guest-curated by Christian Bendayán, an artist and independent researcher of Amazonian art and Gabriela Germana, Ph.D. Candidate for the Art History Department at Florida State University. The transformative and inclusive exhibition will feature original work from international artists. The contemporary artists who will be highlighted are interested in traditional and rural aspects of the Peruvian Amazon, as well as in the urban and modern environments, and deal with topics such nature, myths, people, local customs and knowledge, gender, and social issues. Amazonian art is a space for new and multiple explorations by artists from different perspectives and places. Through a group of pieces that include embroideries, paintings, printings, and photographs, this show will introduce contemporary art about and from the Peruvian Amazon to an American audience. "The Pensacola Museum of Art is excited to host this dynamic and vibrant exhibition organized by guest-curators, Gabriela Germana and Christian Bendayán," said Amy Bowman-McElhone, assistant vice president of the UWF Historic Trust Museums and the director and chief curator of the Pensacola Museum of Art.

Located at 407 S. Jefferson St. in historic downtown Pensacola, the Pensacola Museum of Art is open Tuesday through Thursday from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. For more information about the Pensacola Museum of Art, call 850.432.6247 or visit
