5:30 PM - 7:00 PM Experience UWF: "Stolen Antiquities and White Collar Crime: The Case of the Persian Guard"
Join the UWF College of Arts, Social Sciences and Humanities as Dr. Donna Yates, University of Glasgow, presents the next installment of the Experience UWF Downtown Lecture Series.

In 2011 a man walked into the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts during regular opening hours and stole a 2500-year-old Persian relief of a guard valued at over $1.2 million. Many of our most respected museums house stolen antiquities. High-end auction houses and dealers sell loot on a daily basis. Upstanding citizens freely engage in this criminal market. Yet unlike with most illegal commodities, such as drugs or arms, trafficked antiquities can be openly bought and sold, and are often put on public display. How is this possible? Using the Persepolis relief as a case study, this lecture will discuss how research from criminology can be used to understand crime in the art world.

Join for the lecture and reception, both free and open to the public. RSVPs are not required, but seating is limited and available on a first-come basis. Reception - 5:30 to 6 p.m.; Lecture - 6 to 7 p.m. Location: Museum of Commerce (201 E Zaragoza St, Pensacola, FL 32502) To learn more about the series, visit uwf.edu/downtownlectures. 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM "Culture in the Cross hairs?" Heritage and armed conflict" with Dr. Donna Yates
After the public destruction of cultural heritage sites in Iraq and Syria in recent years and the ongoing looting of archaeological sites in war zones around the world, we must ask the question, What should we do when heritage is threatened by armed conflict? Should we depend on individual countries to protect the past or is there a better approach? What is the role of the military and heritage professionals in protecting heritage in conflict zones. Faculty participants will be professors Jacob Shively (Government) and Justin Sturgeon (Art). The lecture will be held Wednesday, November, 20, 1-3 p.m., UWF Pensacola Campus, in the Alumni Room, Bldg. 12 This event is funded, in part, by the John C. Pace Symposium Series and the Askew Institute for Multi-disciplinary Studies. ** Make plans to join Dr. Yates for the Experience UWF Downtown Lecture Series on Thursday, Nov. 21, 5:30 p.m. at the Museum of Commerce.

7:30 PM - 9:30 PM Symphonic Band Concert
The UWF Department of Music will present the UWF Symphonic Band in concert on Sunday, Dec. 8 at 7:30 p.m. in the Mainstage Theatre at the Center for Fine and Performing Arts, building 82, on the Pensacola campus.

Under the direction of Dr. Brittan Braddock, the UWF Symphonic Band will present a prgram including works by Ralph Vaughan Williams, John Mackey, Gustav Holst and more. This concert program features several works that were based on text from folk songs, hymns, or from the choral literature. The Symphonic Band has delved into the history, text, and interpretation of the original settings in order to pay homage to the historical significance. For example, Gustav Holst's Second Suite in F is based on a series of folk songs that were collected and used as source material. In the 20th century, the collection of folk songs became an important practice to preserve heritage. Many composers also became collectors.

This event is free and open to the public but tickets are required. For more information and to reserve tickets call the CFPA Box Office at (850) 857.6285.
