Event Description:

The University of West Florida Department of Music will present double bassist William Langlie-Miletich as part of the Music Hall Artist Series. The event will be held on Monday, Nov. 5 at 7:30 p.m. in the Music Hall at the Center for Fine and Performing Arts, Building 82, on the Pensacola campus.

A dynamic performer of multiple genres, Langlie-Miletich   began his journey in music at the age of 8 by playing the riffs of Jimi Hendrix and Led Zeppelin on the guitar. After picking up the double bass at age 11, Langlie-Miletich has had an extensive performance career in many popular genres of music, including classical, jazz and others.

In 2016, Langlie-Miletich was the first bassist ever selected for the top prize in the Klein International Strings Competition. “William played Brahms’ Sonata No. 1, Op. 38 with incredible sweep and emotion and passion,” said event founder Mitchell Sardou Klein. “It was one of the most beautiful performances of that piece I can imagine.” In that competition, Langlie-Miletich was also awarded the Pablo Casals prize for the best performance of a solo Bach work. As a Klein Laureate, he has performed with the Peninsula Symphony Orchestra, Santa Cruz Symphony and at Music in the Vineyards in Napa Valley.

In 2018, Langlie-Miletich was the sole bassist selected for the prestigious Marlboro Music Festival. He has been a fellow at the Aspen Music Festival and School, and has attended Boston University’s Tanglewood Institute, and the Domaine Forget International Music Academy in Quebec, Canada. Langlie-Miletich is Principal Bass for Symphony in C in New Jersey. Previously, he was associate principal of the inaugural National Youth Orchestra of the U.S. on its tour of Washington D.C., Moscow, St. Petersburg and London.

As a jazz bassist, Langlie-Miletich was recognized in 2014 at Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Essentially Ellington contest as an outstanding bassist. He has performed in the Montreux, Lyon and Umbria Jazz Festivals.

Admitted to the Curtis Institute of Music at age 16, where he is the Milton Levy Fellow, Langlie-Miletich is in his final year of instruction with Harold Robinson and Edgar Meyer.

Ticket prices are $18 for adults, $14 for seniors and military, $12 for UWF faculty and staff and non-UWF students and $7 for high school students. UWF students get in free with a valid Nautilus card. For more information or to reserve tickets, please contact the CFPA Box Office at 850.857.6285.
