Alexander Russakovsky Cello Concert

Event Description:

The UWF Department of Music presents cellist Alexander Russakovsky in concert on Friday, Nov. 9 at 7:30 pm. Yumi Nomoto will accompany on the piano. The concert will be held in the Music Hall of the Center for Fine & Performing Arts, Building 82 on the Pensacola campus.

Dr. Alexander Russakovsky has studied the cello at the Leningrad Conservatory, under renowned Russian professors, Emmanuel Fishman and Anatoli Nikitin. He earned his Bachelor of Music at the Jerusalem Rubin Academy and his Master’s degree at the Yale University where he studied under Aldo Parisot. He holds a doctorate in cello performance from the University of California, Santa Barbara. A founding member of the Jerusalem Academy String Quartet, Russakovsky has performed with the group throughout Israel, as well as in Germany, Switzerland, Holland, and France. He has made numerous solo appearances with orchestras in Israel, Russia and the United States. A dedicated chamber music player, Russakovsky has performed with string quartets and other chamber music formations in Santa Barbara, in the Chamber Music Series of the Spoleto Festival in Italy, and with the Western Slope Music Festival in Colorado. In 2001, he joined the faculty of the University of Southern Mississippi School of Music. He also has served on the faculty of the Adriatic Chamber Music Festival in Bonefro, Italy and the IV Violoncello Biennial in Peru. Most recently, Dr. Russakovsky has given master classes and recitals in Taiwan, Israel, and Latin America. A recipient of many awards, he won the Angela and Maurice M. Clairmont Competition in Tel Aviv, the Performing Arts Scholarship Foundation Competition in Santa Barbara, and the 1999 Career Grant of the Esperia Foundation.


Born in Japan, Yumi Nomoto moved to London at the age of eight. She gave her first solo recital at age ten at St. Martin-in-the-Fields, and performed for HRH The Prince of Wales at St. James’s Palace. She made her orchestral solo debut the following year at the Royal Festival Hall. She was a recipient of many awards, including the Adami award at the Paris Conservatoire. Ms. Nomoto studied at the Royal College of Music in London, and holds degrees from the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris (Diplôme de Formation Supérieure de Piano) and the Peabody Institute of The Johns Hopkins University (MM and GPD). She was a piano fellow at Bard College Conservatory of Music, and currently serves as staff pianist at University of Southern Mississippi.
