About this Event
View mapMicheaux, a failed homesteader and author, became the first independent Black film director in American History. Joing the UWF History Club for the "Within Our Gates As Autobiography" guest lecture by Chris Digiovanni on Tuesday, October 15, from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. in Building 86, Room 130, will discuss Micheaux’s story, his views on the future of his race, and the context of American history presented by Micheaux’s hopeful, if grounded, view of African Americans. We will go over film records and Michaeux’s own novels to examine what this director had to say to encourage African Americans in an era of intense race-based violence. Register for the event in Argo Pulse!
